Psilocybe Cubensis (Gulf Coast Strain)

Commonly referred to as the "Common Large Psilocybe", Psilocybe cubensis (Strophariaceae, Agaricales) has a large, fleshy, yellowish cap with brown gills and a persistent ring on the stalk just below the cap.   After picking, this ring turns a distinctive purple color.   The cap generally measures 5/8-31/2" in diameter and can be either conical or bell-shaped,   and convex to flat on top with a central distinct protrusion (nipple) in its middle.   The top central portion has white and a brownish-yellow center, becoming entirely browinsh-yellow at maturity.   Brusing, usually when aged or at picking, causes the brused area to become distinctively bluish.   The spores, when examined under a microscope, are oval in shape measuring 11.5-17x8-11.5 microns, and are smooth, thick walled, blunt, and with a very distinct pore at its tip.   The spore print is a dark purple brown color.   This species of mushroom has not been proven harmful to humans nor animals and is therefore considered consumable.   These spores are legal to own and possess in the United States except in the states of California , Ohio and Georgia .   These spores can not be shipped to California , Ohio or Georgia , as it would violate Federal Laws.

This mushroom is an extreme "Hallucinogenic", and grows year round in the Gulf Coast Region of the United States.   It is usully found on cow and horse dung in pastures.   If salt licks are being used in these pastures, you will most likley not find this species of mushroom to be available.

All spore prints are sandwiched between two microscope glass slides then sealed with copper foil before shipment, which means you don't loose any spores or absorb contaminants, unlike those on the 3x5 cards that are commonly being sold today.   Access to the spores, for closer examination, can be easily accomplished by removing the copper foil and then separating the two glass slides.   These spores are intended to be used for educational, scientific, and or microscopic identification purposes ONLY!   For a view of the slide(s) please go to the main menu and click on "Spore Research Equipment".
